While balancing the client’s need to feel satisfied and truly enjoy their food, with healthy food choices, Chef Meeshell is able to impart her knowledge and simultaneously help them to reach and maintain goal weights and optimum health. From the macrobiotic tastes of Olympic and professional athletes to the extravagant penchants of major corporations and Hollywood’s elite, Chef Meeshell has won them all over with her lavish, yet cozy “comfort healthy gourmet” cuisine.
It all started with an Indian tandoori cooking class Meeshell took at 10. The daughter of an incense king, this child of Flower children, grew up in the mountains of Malibu baking and broiling for a steady stream of pop icons that included Janet Jackson, John Paul Jones, governors, senators, former Vice-President Al Gore, and others. With their varied tastes wafting through her kitchen like the smells of the world oozing from her father’s incense, Meeshell channeled her technicolor life into her cooking. By age 12 she was catering parties of 200-plus.
After broadening her artistic palette at Otis Parsons School of Design, Chef Meeshell graduated from Epicurean Cooking School in Los Angeles and was quickly recruited for apprenticeships as far away as Stockholm, where she catered U.S. ambassadors’ homes. She then swiftly ascended the ranks of Los Angeles’ restaurant elite with stints at Wolfgang Puck’s Eureka, DC3 and Lunapark. By 25, Chef Meeshell was already one of Seventeen Magazine’s “success stories” and well on her way to becoming a private chef for some of the world’s most discriminating tastes.
“After fourteen years of meals by Meeshell Block, we're convinced there's nothing this woman can't cook. Gourmet or veggie; organic or ethnic; even meat and potatoes. She's a master chef in all areas. And she's sweet!” say fans Carol Flint and Steve Jones. Hollywood produce, Rob Reiner adds, “Her presentation is an art in itself!”
Whether she is serving up her Poached Eggs Florentine in The Hamptons; supervising lighting, libations and lumpia for megawatt weddings; or serving Balinese ceviche and ribs for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s Summer Hoedown, Meeshell is a Renaissance chef with that rare intuition for what a customer craves. Chef Meeshell has even FedExed her creations to clients that couldn’t take another day without them.
Every morsel Chef Meeshell prepares is tailored to her clients’ tastes, and she caters to those with special diets or severe food allergies with equal culinary aplomb. She has taught women how to win men’s hearts as an aphrodisiac specialist and has trained men how to rule over the backyard barbeque. It is not uncommon for professional athletes, bachelors and bachelorettes, parents and teenagers to call on Chef Meeshell to help them with their nutritional goals and food allergies, as well as transform them into master chefs.
Chef Meeshell graduated in 2003 with honors from Cordon Bleu’s Hospitality and Restaurant Management Program at The California School of Culinary Arts in Pasadena, California, where she fulfilled her externship in Guest Relations at The Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica, California. Chef Meeshell relocated to the Santa Barbara for six years, now resides in Cambria where she continues her research in the food and health sector, helping families and individuals with their dietary needs preparing healthy meals. She is currently writing her Memoirs/Cookbook.
